Coach Myers says: Nick will be back at first base and hitting in the middle of the order... He is capable of doing a lot of things, and we will need him to be a run-producer and power threat like last season... He is a great defender at first base, committing only one error last season.
As a Junior: The Mules starter at first base, he was a third-team All-American, the MVP of the South Central Regional with 16 RBI in the tourney, a first-team All-Region selection, and a first-team All MIAA pick... He led the team in home runs and RBI, while ranking second in batting average... Was named MIAA Hitter of the Week on two occasions during the middle part of the season... Led the team with 29 multiple hit games and also had 21 multiple RBI games... Had four hits in a game four times, and six RBI with two homers against Northwest Missouri (March 7)... Scored five runs against FHSU (April 16) and finished the regular season with a five-RBI performance against Nebraska-Omaha (May 2)... In a stretch, he had six homers in 10 games.
Before UCM: Played two seasons at Rice University for legendary head coach Wayne Graham... Saw action in a limited role during his first two seasons, but garnered four starts and played in 10 games, including one start at the DH against Texas as a freshman... Earned Conference USA All-Academic team in both seasons as well... Valedictorian of the 2007 Lawrence High School class... A two sport athlete, he was one of three finalists for Kansas male athlete of the year his senior year... Three-year starter and letterman for coach Brad Stoll... Finished senior year with a .474 batting average and was second team all-state, along with all-conference and all-metro honors... Helped the Lions to a third place finish in the 2007 state playoffs... Also played football, earning all-conference honors three times, all-metro twice, and all-state as a senior.
