Before UCM: A 46th round draft pick of the Washington Nationals, Brugman was a two year starter for head coach Todd Eastin at South Mountain C.C. in Phoenix... He was a second team all-conference pick as a freshman, hitting .335 with 18 doubles... hit .275 as a sophomore... Also attended Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, starting three seasons for head coach Stan Luketich... Hit .421 as a junior with 21 steals, earning team Co-MVP and first-team all-region and Tempe all-city... as a senior batted .431 with seven homers while leading the state in doubles with 17... named Central Region Player of the Year, first-team all- state, first-team all-city and to the Super 50 State All-Star Game at Chase Ball Park.
