About Us
- The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education identified the University of Central Missouri as "one of the premier teacher education institutions in the state," and has a reputation for preparing some of the finest teachers in the classroom today.
- Since its beginning as the State Normal School for the Second Normal District of Missouri in 1871, the university has played a prominent role in the education of teachers.
- The Teacher Education Program at Central Missouri is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and individual programs are approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Both the Elementary Education and the Early Childhood Education programs have individual national recognition.
- As a cornerstone of the institution for more than 130 years, the University of Central Missouri Teacher Education Program shapes teachers and other school professionals who are well grounded in theory, display competence in content knowledge, and are prepared with strategies to ensure success for all learners.
