Department of Educational Foundations & Literacy
I am pleased to welcome you to the website of the Department of Educational Foundations & Literacy. In our department we have two primary points of focus: 1) we serve to support all of the many UCM undergraduate teacher preparation programs, in other departments across campus, through a number of required foundational and literacy courses taught by our faculty; and 2) we administer educational programs housed in our own department, including the Middle School Education undergraduate degree and the following three graduate degrees: Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT); Master of Science in Education (MSE) in Literacy Education; and Master of Science in Education (MSE) in Curriculum and Instruction with three focus options-- K-12 Education, Middle Level Education, and Secondary Education.
The Department of Educational Foundations & Literacy adheres to the following: The UCM educator is a competent, caring practitioner committed to the premise that all can learn. Furthermore, in our department we are striving to establish a culture of excellence and to model an ethic of care. We are proud that teacher preparation has been a cornerstone of our university history and that we have long been recognized as having one of the leading teacher education programs in the state, earning the esteemed accrediting of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE/CAEP). We are looking forward to contributing to this continuing tradition of distinction into the future.
We invite you to browse our site and please be sure to contact us if we can answer questions or assist you in any way. Thank you for your interest in the Department of Educational Foundations & Literacy.
