Intensive English Program

Photo of definition of communicationThe Intensive English Program (IEP): Ideal for students wishing to attend a college or university in the US and who want to improve their English for academic purposes. The program includes reading, writing, grammar, communication skills, testing skills, vocabulary, pronunciation, and American culture. Students also participate in several activities; i.e. shopping trips, sporting events, and picnics. The IEP has four 8-week sessions a year, two in the fall and two in the spring.

The Intensive English Program incorporates the following features that develop the ability to communicate in relevant academic, technical, and professional fields:

  • Placement tests for new students and frequent progress assessments
  • 20 to 24 hours each week of instruction in core curriculum and elective courses
  • Assistance in completing applications for admission to Central or other American universities
  • Advanced-level students, when qualified, may enroll in a selected university course for credit , while taking English classes
  • Airport pickups, orientation, support services
  • Field trips to surrounding cities for social, cultural, educational, and shopping excursions
  • Numerous activities designed to introduce students to American culture and customs
