Master of Science in Nursing
The master's program focuses on two emphasis areas:
- Nurse Educators (NE)
- Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP)
Advancing one's nursing education at Central Missouri can open up new career opportunities in administration, private practice, research, consultation and many other careers.
We would like to address confusion regarding the requirement of a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) to practice as a FNP. In 2004, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) published a recommendation that by 2015, entry into advanced nursing practice change from the Master’s Degree to the DNP. Eligibility to practice is not determined by AACN, but by state boards of nursing, insurance carriers, and certification granting agencies. State boards of nursing, insurance carriers, and certification granting agencies do not require a DNP to practice as a FNP.
