Welcome to the Department of Nutrition

In 2001, the university was the recipient of a gift from the estate of Regina Myers McClain. Now valued at nearly $5 million, the purpose of the bequest was succinctly stated by Ms. McClain in her declaration of trust: “to establish a department of nutrition.” In accordance with the gift, work has been occurring for some 12 months to create a Department of Nutrition within the College of Health and Human Services.  On July 1, 2009, the Department of Health and Human Performance was restructured into two academic units, the Department of Kinesiology, and the Department of Nutrition.

The Department of Nutrition offers undergraduate programs in Dietetics and Nutrition, Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Health Studies (coming in Fall of 2010) as well as minors in Foods, and Health Education.

The Department of Kinesiology is comprised of the undergraduate curricula of Athletic Training, Physical Education (including Corporate Fitness, Exercise Science, and Physical Education K-12), Recreation, and Tourism, as well as the Master of Science in Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Science.
