|A Purdue graduate, Dr. Hansen-Horn arrived at UCM in 1999. Under her leadership, the public relations program grew from about 80 students to more than 120. Her consulting work with domestic and international organizations allows her and her students to be on the cutting edge in public relations practices. She is the editor of a one-of-a kind public relations theory text.|
Tom began his career as a broadcast journalist and moved into corporate public relations positions in the pharmaceutical and energy sectors. In his 30-year career he has provided strategic counsel, crisis communications advice and media relations skills to Fortune 500 CEOs as well as entrepreneurs just starting out.
Tom developed and taught our popular Social Media and Public Relations class and has been active in the Public Relations Society of America and is a past president of the Greater Kansas City Chapter. He has served on the board and as board president for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City.
Tom is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in speech.
|Having recently earned his doctorate at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Dr. Horn keeps his teaching fresh by doing consulting work with NASCAR and other professional athletic organizations. He brings to the classroom professional experience with media relations, professional writing and editing, as well as working with organizations and celebrities who are contracted with those
Jenn Mullins comes to UCM from Anchorage, Alaska where she spent the last four years as the Community & Technical College at the University of Alaska Anchorage's Communication Coordinator. Her work included working with the media, designing and printing publications, webmaster of the college's immense website and planning event's for the college's 14 divisions.
She earned her bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she also taught as an adjunct. Her research focus is in two areas: the forms and quality of communication in military families; and quality of communication for the disabled. As a military spouse and parent of a special needs child, she has developed a passion for helping others understand the needs of these two populations.
