Sociology Club and Sociology Honor Society
The Sociology Club is designed to bring together undergraduate and graduate students who have an interest in sociology and related fields. The goal of the organization is to increase understanding of various specialty areas in the profession. Anyone is welcome to attend and the dues are minimal. In the past, students in the Sociology Club have raised money that enabled them to attend state and regional professional meetings. Contact Dr. Robert Fernquist or Dr. Musa Ilu for more information.
The Sociology Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is an organization focused on the professional development of students interested in academic careers. To be a member, students must be sociology majors or demonstrate a serious interest in sociology, at the junior undergraduate level or beyond, must rank in the top 35% of their class in general scholarship, must have taken at least 4 sociology courses (or a semester at the graduate level) and have a 3.0 GPA in their sociology courses. If class rank is not readily available to a chapter representative, in lieu of class rank, students shall have accumulated the equivalent of an overall grade point average of at least 3.3 by a four point scale where: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0. Contact Dr. Mary Kelly for more information.
