History & Anthropology
Awards and Scholarships
Each year the department awards the Demand Scholarship to an undergraduate history major. This scholarship provides $250 each semester to be applied to fees. Also, each semester the department has funds available to recognize history and social studies majors and anthropology minors who have achieved distinction in their coursework. These funds vary considerably from semester to semester, as does the competition for the awards. The amounts given usually range from $100 to $200.
Other distinctions the department confers are the recognition of an Outstanding Undergraduate History Student, an Outstanding Graduate Student, and an Outstanding Anthropology Undergraduate Student. These awards are announced each spring; a reception is held to honor the recipients; and their names are inscribed on plaques which are on display in the department's main office.
