FMLA

The Family Medical Leave Act is a federal law that provides a leave of absence for employees who must be away from work for specific reasons. FMLA allows up to 12 weeks of leave for:

  • Serious health condition for self, spouse, or parent
  • Childbirth/Adoption

  • Care for a child under age 18 with a serious health condition/injury

To be eligible for FMLA, an employee must have been employed for at least 12 months at UCM and have worked at least 1,250 hours during the 12 month period prior to the leave start date.

Employees are required to use any applicable sick leave and vacation leave during the 12 week period before going on an unpaid status.
