Strategic Governance Model For Student Success

Sustainable Business Approach

In 2010, UCM leadership realized the traditional university business model of addressing funding shortfalls through measures such as across-the-board budget cuts and tuition increases was not sustainable in the current and future higher education climate. They committed to finding a business approach to effectively deal with declining state support while staying true to its learner-centered identity. Coupled with vision and energy from university leadership, UCM developed the Strategic Governance for Student Success Model.

Identity: Strategic Positioning Platform

Conveyed by the phrase Learning to a Greater Degree, the Strategic Positioning Platform solidifies UCM as a learner-centered environment focused on preparing students to excel in a fast-paced world.

Goals of the Student Success Model

  • Access
UCM believes in reducing barriers for qualified students and in finding ways to ensure students who desire a higher education degree have the opportunity to achieve one.
  • Affordability
Tuition, fees and room rates for the 2014-15 school year have been held the same as the previous year. UCM's efforts to provide affordable tuition has resulted in average increases in tuition of 1.48 percent throughout the past six years. Cumulatively, these increases have consistently been below the Consumer Price Index.
  • Completion
With the Learning to a Greater Degree Contract, UCM is committed to helping students graduate on time with less debt.
  • Student Success
The ultimate goal of a college education is to help students graduate with a degree that helps ensure future success. At UCM, students not only enjoy the complete college experience while on campus, but earn a more valuable degree that makes them a top competitor as they enter the job market.
