Simulation Education In Health Science Graduate Certificate

Advanced Program for In-Demand Skill

Designed for busy professionals, this Simulation Course Series helps integrate knowledge and skills of simulation education for leaders in academic or healthcare settings in only one and a half semesters. Simulation best practice standards provide the foundation for effective learning strategies within simulation pedagogy, evaluation of simulation technologies, and demonstration of leadership skills in simulation.

About the Course Series

The University of Central Missouri offers graduate-level Simulation Education course series completely online. This advanced program provides an in-demand skill designed for leaders in the academic or healthcare setting and qualifies toward your Continuing Education Units training.

Upon completion of this program you’ll be able to:

  • Integrate knowledge and skills of simulation education within an academic or healthcare setting. 
  • Demonstrate understanding of effective learning strategies within the simulation pedagogy according to established standards of best practice for simulation.
  • Synthesize simulation standards for best practice within a simulation program.
  • Evaluate technologies applicable to support the simulation pedagogy.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in simulation education within an academic or healthcare setting.

Required Courses

Theory-Based Instruction

Simulated learning environments provide students with a hands- on learning opportunity in an interactive and adaptable setting. Students are provided a multi-faceted clinical background without patient risks. UCM’s nine-credit hour series prepares  you to become a cutting-edge simulation educator.


NUR 5110 Simulation Education and Facilitation (three-credit-hours)

Designed to explore the pedagogy of simulation education as a teaching and learning method for educators within academic and clinical environments.

NUR 5120 Leadership and Management in Simulation (three-credit-hours)

Applies principles and components of the simulation pedagogy to simulation management.

NUR 5130 Simulation Education Capstone (three-credit-hours)

Analyze current issues and trends in simulation education, and complete your final project incorporating all program content.

Admission Requirements

To apply for the Simulation Education Certificate you must:

  • have a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences discipline with a minimum GPA of 3.00
  • have two years of clinical experience (preferred)
  • provide two professional references
  • submit a 250-word essay describing your purpose and goals for program participation
