From cereal boxes to 3D structures and even parts for the International Space Station, the Design and Drafting Technology (CADD) program at the University of Central Missouri prepares you for an in-demand career that is both technical and creative. You could work in design, drafting, 3D modeling, building information modeling (BIM) and many other technical and management drafting and design jobs in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, as well as manufacturing.

When you pursue a Design and Drafting degree at UCM, you learn to create technical, two-dimensional drawings and three-dimensional models of objects, structures, machines, civil topography, electrical components and more. You also gain hands-on experience with the latest technologies by putting drafting and design concepts into practice.

Our facilities rank among the most technologically advanced in the Midwest, housing more than 80 computers for students, the latest workstations and up-to-date software and 3D printers. 

Paired with program scholarships and paid internships with industry leaders, UCM offers the resources you need to succeed. 

UCM’s Design and Drafting degree is so much more than just an architectural drafting and design program. In addition to drafting and design technology, CADD design and CADD drafting, you can specialize in areas such as Mechanical Product/Machine Design, Structural Design, Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) Design and Civil/Geodatabase (GIS) Design.

At the University of Central Missouri, we understand that well-rounded, qualified design and drafting professionals require more than classroom learning alone. That’s why we also offer experiential learning opportunities to bolster your undergraduate education, such as:

  • Internships: Gain valuable hands-on job experience and bridge the gap between the academic world and the working world through a wide variety of opportunities.
  • Industry partners: Collaborate with individuals who hold leadership positions at global and national engineering firms. In addition to providing continuous support, our industry partners participate in our annual advisory board meetings and provide career opportunities for CADD majors. 
  • Student organizations: Join one of two student organizations for Design and Drafting Technology majors: the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) and the Design and Drafting Student Association (DDSA). These organizations offer leadership opportunities, learning experiences and the supportive environment to network with fellow students, faculty and industry professionals in the construction, engineering and architectural drafting fields.
