Dr. Amy Desaulniers joined the faculty at the University of Central Missouri in 2018 as an Assistant Professor of Biology. Dr. Desaulniers is a native Missourian; she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a minor in Captive Wild Animal Management. She then moved north and completed her graduate degrees (M.S. and Ph.D.) in reproductive physiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After graduation, Dr. Desaulniers returned to Missouri to join the School of Natural Sciences at UCM where she is currently the resident physiologist, teaching Human Physiology (BIOL 3402) and Animal Physiology (BIOL 3431).

Dr. Desaulniers’ research focuses on elucidating the factors that impact mammalian testis development and function. She is interested in gaining a better understanding of testicular biology in order to impact many different sectors including: 1) human health; 2) livestock production; 3) the conservation of endangered species and; 4) the contraception of invasive species. Dr. Desaulniers has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Biology of Reproduction, Transgenic Research and Scientific Reports. Moreover, Dr. Desaulniers has presented her research on the international stage at scientific conferences such as Society for the Study of Reproduction, International Embryo Technology Society, Large Animal Genetic Engineering Summit and the International Conference on Pig Reproduction. Funding agencies such as USDA-NIFA have supported her research.

Professional accolades include numerous awards and honors for research at the departmental, university, regional, and national/international levels. Notable honors include a USDA-NIFA-AFRI ELI Predoctoral Fellowship, Midwest American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) Young Scholar Award, Widaman Distinguished Graduate Fellowship Award and Gamma Sigma Delta Outstanding Graduate Student Award. Dr. Desaulniers is also interested in the scholarship of teaching and has received several awards for teaching excellence and innovation. In her free time, Dr. Desaulniers enjoys hiking with her dogs, playing racquetball, and spending time with family.
