Boys and Girls State

If you participated in this summer's Missouri Boys State or Girls State program you could earn college credit. Qualified participants will be contacted by UCM, via email and snail mail, in early August with registration information.

Participants must meet the below criteria to qualify:

  1. Successfully complete the entire week.  Citizens who leave the program for any reason will not be eligible for college credit.

  2. Actively participate in the academic portions of the program ( i.e. special assemblies, schools of instruction, and governmental activities).  It must be evident that the citizen is at least attempting to be an active citizen by running for government and/or political office, seeking appointments, helping other citizens’ campaign for office, serving as a reporter for one of the medias, etc.  Daily newspapers, city and county reports, ballots, and reports by the counselors will be used to evaluate each citizen’s participation.  In addition, each citizen will write an essay or complete a participation chart summarizing participation and what was learned.  Citizens must complete and submit this essay or chart and it must satisfactorily address the question and adequately demonstrate an ability to communicate in writing in order to be eligible.  Participation in fitness activities is not counted toward academic participation.

  3. Receive at least a 70% on all examinations.

If you meet the qualification criteria but did not received notification from UCM, please contact Dr. Robynn Kuhlmann at

Do I have to pay an application fee when applying for these college credits?

No, the application fee is waived for Boys and Girls State participants when applying for this particular college credit opportunity.  Ignore the application charges. Fees will adjust within 48 hours.

Are there scholarships available?

Yes! We have two scholarship options available and they can be stacked with any other scholarships you may qualify for:

  1. If you are interested in attending UCM and becoming a Political Science or International Studies major you could benefit from a $500 (non-renewable) scholarship. Recipients are incoming Freshman at UCM who have, with full participation, satisfactorily completed the Missouri Boys or Girls State program. Applicants must submit a letter of intent and their composite ACT scores by April 5, 2022 to Dr. Robynn Kuhlmann.
  2. All incoming freshmen who have taken at least one dual credit course with UCM automatically qualify for a $1000 scholarship ($500 per semester renewable for up to six semesters) if they earned a 3.0 GPA, enroll full time each semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA at UCM. Get more scholarship details here.

I mailed the credit registration form on the day it was due, will it be accepted?

Yes, as long as the form is postmarked by the deadline, it will be accepted.

I missed the registration deadline, can I still apply for the credits?

No, deadlines are strongly enforced.

I changed my mind, can I switch between options?

No, switching between options is not allowed. Once your registration has been processed, you will be locked in that option.

Are these credits transferable?

Transfer policies vary by institution, by your chosen major and whether you have a minor. Contact the institution you are planning to attend to verify the transferability of these credits. Only the receiving institution can confirm if, and how, these credits will be accepted. You may want to send this course syllabus to your academic advisor for content evaluation. These credits are recorded as POLS 1244 - Workshop in Political Science.

I applied and paid for the college credits but later found out the institution I'm planning to attend won't accept the credits, can I get a refund?

Refunds are only allowed under extenuating circumstances. Students are responsible for verifying the transferability of these credits prior to registration as policies vary by institution and major/minor chosen. Transferability issues are not considered extenuating circumstances.

I earned the credits and need to transfer them to my future or current college, how do I do that?

To transfer your credits out you will need to request and pay for an official transcript.
