Dr. Carlotta Kimble, Professor of Communication Disorders, earned her Ph.D. from Walden University, Minneapolis, MN. Her research interests are in the areas of cultural and linguistic diversity, peer mentoring, and cognitive and neurogenic communication disorders in children and adults. Her current research interests include: perceptions of and attitudes toward disability and persons with disabilities among SLPs in the skilled nursing facility, effects of ageist attitudes on SNF residents, school pediatric traumatic brain injury, teacher familiarity and SLP confidence levels in treatment, university student AAC knowledge and/or comfort levels, university student acceptance of users of AAC, and international students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of accent reduction therapy. Teaching interests are in the areas of traumatic brain injury, dementia, aphasia, cultural and linguistic diversity, child language disorders, and augmentative and alternative communication.

Dr. Kimble has previous clinical experience as a speech-language pathologist for the following populations: birth-to-three, K-12 schools, early childhood special education 3-5, long-term care, acute care, and private practice. She has been a Clinical Director for rehabilitation corporations and Director of Operations for a rehabilitation corporation. Dr. Kimble has served on the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Advisory Commission, member of Missouri Advisory Commission for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and serving as Vice-Chair and Secretary, and the Missouri State Interagency Coordinating Council (SICC) for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, representing infants and toddlers and their families. Dr. Kimble served on the Executive Board of the Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association for six years and is a Past President of this organization. Dr. Kimble is currently the Undergraduate Program Coordinator and Mentor for the Communications Disorders Program and Graduate Advisor for the Graduate Speech-Language Pathology Program.
