UCM’s MA in Accountancy Named One of 30 Most Affordable Programs

Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (March 3, 2015) – Accounting Degree Review (ADR), an online independent and objective resource for current and prospective accounting and finance students, has ranked the University of Central Missouri third on a list of 30 Most Affordable Residential Master’s Programs in Accounting for 2015.

UCM offers a Master of Arts in Accountancy degree. In establishing its rankings, the Accounting Degree Review researched tuition and fees of graduate in accounting programs across the nation that are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). AACSB is the world’s premier accreditation agency for business and accounting degree programs. Although more than 700 business schools across the globe have earned AACSB Accreditation, Accounting Degree Review notes that only 170 institutions worldwide have attained the specialized AACSB Accreditation designation for their accounting programs.

The rankings were established by calculating tuition and fees for an out-of-state full-time student with a bachelor’s degree in accounting who began the master’s program in fall 2014. For all schools that made the list of most affordable programs, tuition and fees were under $25,500, and the average cost was around $22,700 annually.  At UCM, the total cost of tuition and fees for out-of-state students was $19,712 for one year, according to the ranking agency.

“UCM demonstrated a commitment to keeping education costs down by not increasing tuition and fees in the last two school years,” Accounting Degree Review noted in its report.

Steven Popejoy, professor of business law and coordinator of the accountancy program at UCM, is among those in the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies who are pleased the degree program is being recognized.

“We are extremely glad to learn of this ranking by ADR,” he said. “It reinforces the focus on keeping college costs at a manageable level, which has been a priority under President (Charles) Ambrose.  It also shows that it is possible to have a high-quality program at the same time, as is evidenced by our AACSB accreditation in accountancy."
