WARRENSBURG, MO (May 23, 2009) – Contributing to the local economy, nearly 2,500 people from many parts of the globe will converge on UCM for the Accelerated Christian Education Ministries International Student Convention May 23-28.
This is the third time since 2005 that ACE has selected UCM to host the convention to be attended by high school students and their teachers. Many parents also will be in the community to attend the event, almost doubling the overall number of individuals who visit Warrensburg.
“We’re pleased to have another opportunity to work with ACE in providing facilities and services for the International Student Convention,” said Brenda Moeder, associate director of university housing. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for students and families across the globe to become familiar with our campus, but it also offers many economic benefits for the community. While students take advantage of our residence halls, their parents and other family members will be staying in local motels and taking advantage of local dining, entertainment and retail opportunities.”
ACE’s International Student Convention is the largest conference hosted by UCM. It includes competition for young people in approximately 150 events such as academics, art, athletics, music, oratory and much more. The convention’s “Olympics” highlight a school year for hundreds of schools and home schools that use the Accelerated Christian Education program. ACE publishes individualized curriculum and provides training in its implementation for students in 7,000 schools around the globe, including students in grades K-12 and home schools.
Although many of the activities are geared for students and teachers, non-denominational rallies take place each evening in the Multipurpose Building and are open to the public. Streaming video of the evening activities can be seen worldwide on the Internet.
