WARRENSBURG, MO (April 7, 2009) – Adding his alma mater to a nationwide tour that focuses on small venues on college campuses, 2008 American Idol winner David Cook will perform at UCM Tuesday, April 28. Singer-songwriter Ryan Star is joining him for the concert that begins at 7:30 p.m. in Hendricks Hall.
Tickets Available, Seating Limited
Because of Cook’s strong connection to the campus, the university expects a high demand for seats. The majority of tickets will go to students, and there will be a limited number of seats for faculty, staff and alumni. All seats will be general admission, and all but alumni tickets will be distributed through a lottery system. The cost for student tickets, limit one apiece, is $15, and tickets for faculty, staff, and alumni, are $20 each, a maximum of two per person.
Lottery System Developed
UCM students, faculty and staff who want to obtain tickets may sign up for the lottery beginning April 8 through noon April 14 by visiting the Office of Campus Activities in Elliott Union 217, and presenting their campus IDs. Names selected in the lottery will be posted at the Office of Campus Activities at noon April 15 and an individual email will sent via the student email system. Individuals selected may claim and pay for their tickets from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 16; Friday, April 17; Monday, April 20; and Tuesday, April 21 at the Performing Arts Series Ticket Office on the first floor of the Administration Building. If tickets are not picked up or paid for by 5:01 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, an additional drawing will be held to enable students to attend the concert.
Tickets Available to Alumni
The Office of Alumni Relations and Development in the Smiser Alumni Center will handle distribution of tickets to alumni, who can obtain them on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 15. Alumni who want to attend the concert should contact the office at 1-660-543-8000 or stop by the office in person. Any unsold tickets will go back to the lottery for students.
UCM Alumnus, American Idol Winner
Cook is a former Blue Springs resident who earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic arts technology management from UCM in 2006. On May 20, 2008, he became the winner of American Idol after garnering more viewer votes than any other contestant in the program’s history. Since that time, he has participated in a nationwide tour with other American Idol finalists, performed for U.S. troops, and appeared on programs such as Saturday Night Live and Good Morning America. He has also released a self-titled album, David Cook, and his first single, Time of My Life, recently went platinum after selling more than 1 million tracks. Cook launched The Declaration Tour, his first series of headline concerts, on Feb. 13 in Tallahassee, FL, which this spring is taking him mostly to college campuses around the country.
Star was a contestant on the CBS reality-type talent show Rock Star: Supernova. He is currently working on his first album, scheduled to be released this summer. One of the tracks, Last Train Home, was featured on the soundtrack for the 2007 film, P.S. I Love You.
