WARRENSBURG - 11/06/2006 - UCM's Friends of Music Society will host classical guitarist Petar Jankovic Friday, Nov. 10, in the third performance of the 2006-2007 Friends of Music Concert Series.

Performs in Venues around the Globe

Jankovic will communicate the honest emotion of the human experience during his performance in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Hart Recital Hall. Since beginning his professional career in 1985, Jankovic has participated in major competitions around the globe and performs more than 30 concerts per season.

Began Performance Career at Age 16

He began his studies in guitar at age 8 in his native Yugoslavia, where he later earned a degree from the Music Academy in Belgrade. He began  his professional performing career at age 16. While in Yugoslavia, he became a two-time gold medal, silver medal, and two-time bronze medal winner at the National Music Competition. He also is the recipient of the Bronze Medal at the 1998 Princess Cristina 13th International Guitar Competition in Madrid, and was awarded the first prize at the Competition in Performance of Hispano-American music in Bloomington, IN.

Dedicated to Performance and Teaching

Jankovic received a master’s degree from the Indiana University School of Music, where he was invited to pursue the Artist Diploma Degree under the guidance of maestro Ernesto Bitetti in the mid-1990s. Still dedicated to performance and teaching, he developed a guitar program at Franklin College of Indiana in 1997. He currently is a member of the Indiana University School of Music faculty.

Friends of Music Concert Series Continues

The Friends of Music Concert Series continues with a concert presented by Ralph Votapek, professor of piano and artist in residence emeritus at the Michigan State University School of Music, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5 in the Hart Recital Hall.

The Gala Scholarship Concert is the finale of the concert season at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, in UCM’s Hendricks Hall.

Support UCM's Music Initiatives

Become a member of the Friends of Music Society by making a donation to the UCM Foundation in support of music initiatives. Members may support not only the scholarship programs, but instrument and technology acquisition and maintenance, and appearances by guest artists and master teachers who will work with Central Missouri’s music students.

Membership Has Its Benefits

Special benefits to donors at certain levels of membership include the opportunity to have music faculty perform at private events, to “name” a concert in honor or memory of a friend or loved one, or to be a guest conductor with one of the university’s major ensembles. In addition,
donors will receive invitations to special social and musical events and public recognition in print materials at upcoming concerts.
