Martynes is a multi-media clarinetist who brings new life to standard and new repertoire. She is known for her eclectic performance range, from classical to contemporary to improvisation, and her inventive ability to incorporate audio and video sampling while maintaining an acoustic character.

Martynes received a master’s in musicology at the Paris VIII University and pursued her doctoral studies at the University of Montreal, specializing in mixed media with live video and electronic possibilities and digital effects. She received first prize from the National Conservatory of Paris and the Academia Perosi in Italy.

As a classical musician, Krista has toured throughout Europe and in Mexico and China. As a contemporary musician she was featured as a soloist in France, Italy and Austria, and she has participated in a documentary on the music of Luigi Nono in Venice.

In addition to her evening performance, Martynes also will present an open forum on Performing with Electronics and Life as a Professional Musician from noon to 1 p.m. and a clarinet master class from 2 to 3:30 p.m., both on Monday in Hart Recital Hall.
