WARRENSBURG - 11/20/2006 - Groundbreaking ceremonies Saturday morning, Nov. 18, on the UCM campus marked the first step in the construction of the College High Memorial in commemoration of the university's former laboratory school.

Located Near Former School Building

College High Memorial

When completed, the memorial will be located south of the Humphreys Building, which for many years housed the school until it was moved to UCM's Lovinger Building. The memorial was designed by Richard Monson, UCM professor emeritus of art. Construction will begin in the spring of 2007, with a dedication ceremony planned during Homecoming Oct. 19-20, 2007.

Training Facility for Generations of Educators

The school was operated by the university as a teacher education laboratory school from 1913 until it closed in 1976. First known as Training High School, it later became College High School in 1938. It was renamed University High School in 1972 when Central Missouri State College became University of Central Missouri. The school was closed with the completion of the 1975-76 school year.
