WARRENSBURG - 10/06/2006 - The UCM Department of Music presents a classical piano recital by Peter Miyamoto at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 in Hart Recital Hall.
Maintain International Performance Schedule
Still in his 30s, Miyamoto is an acclaimed performer who has appeared in major U.S. cities, as well as international appearances in Canada, England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Serbia, Russia, China, and Japan. He maintains an equally active profile as a clinician, conducting master classes at Oberlin Conservatory, Northwestern University, and the Interlochen Arts Academy.
Recipient of Numerous Awards
Miyamoto was named the first Gilmore Young Artist in 1990, and he has also captured top prizes in numerous competitions including the American Pianist Association National Fellowship Competition, the D'Angelo International Competition, the National Chopin Competition, the San Francisco Symphony Competition and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Competition.
Currently on Piano Faculty at MU
Miyamoto received a bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, a master’s degree from Yale University and doctorate from Michigan State University, as well as an Artist Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music in London. He currently is assistant professor of piano at the University of Missouri – Columbia, and he previously served on the faculty at Michigan State University and as head of the keyboard department at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA.
His CD of the Chopin Ballades and Fantasies recently has been released, and a second CD of works by Franz Schubert is scheduled for release in 2006.
The program will include works by Mozart, Schubert and Schumann. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
