PAS Presents UCM Opera Theatre Production of “Music from the Old Country”

WARRENSBURG, MO (April 21, 2014) – The Performing Arts Series and Department of Music at the University of Central Missouri have combined resources to present the UCM Opera Theatre production, Music from the Old Country, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 25-26 in Hendricks Hall. The performance is the finale of the Fanfare Series, part of the 2013-2014 PAS season.

Under the direction of regional opera star David Adams, UCM opera students will present scenes from 10 popular myths and fairy tales. Program selections include the opening scene from Die Zauberflote by Mozart; Hansel and Gretel meet the Witch from Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck; Hello Little Girl from Into the Woods by Sondheim; Nannetta’s Magic Spell from Falstaff by Verdi; Acts I and II from Puss and Boots by Montsalvatge; and The Enchantment of the Cook from The Love for Three Oranges by Prokofiev.

The UCM Opera Theatre presents annual scenes programs and often a fully staged work. Additionally, each year, in conjunction with the Department of Theatre and Dance, the Opera Theatre presents a fully produced musical, complete with sets, costumes and makeup.
