WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 3, 2014) - A new season of Sportspage returns to KMOS-TV, the University of Central Missouri’s public television station, with a new format that features UCM students as hosts and reporters.
Beginning with the Feb. 13 edition of Sportspage, KMOS-TV and UCM Athletics will partner with the UCM Department of Communication and Sociology to provide hands-on opportunities for UCM students in sports broadcasting courses. Alex Greenlee, a senior from Lee's Summit, and Devin Negrete, a senior from Grain Valley, will serve as co-anchors, assisted by sideline reporters Katherine Bailey, a junior from St. Charles, and Briana Blocker, and sophomore from St. Louis. Mules and Jennies fans who enjoy the weekly review of UCM athletics will continue to see game highlights, interviews with the coaching staff and profiles of outstanding athletes.
Like an increasing number of courses offered across campus, this arrangement provides students with the opportunity to gain practical experience while earning academic credit, better preparing them for their chosen careers. While students have always gained experience on the program by operating the cameras, conducting athlete interviews and editing game highlights, the role of host was previously filled by Shawn Jones, UCM’s former senior associate athletic director for external operations. Jones recently was named the athletic director for Henderson State University, Arkadelphia, Ark. Bill Turnage preceded Jones as host, originating the role when the show debuted in the 1980s.

From program production and promotion to master control operations, outreach and program services, KMOS-TV provides opportunities for students to learn and grow professionally. Many students dedicate time to the production each week, and are recognized for their contribution in each program’s credit roll. In addition to their work for local programs including Sportspage, University Magazine, Show-Me Ag, KMOS Live, Season to Season Outdoors, Central Missouri Tomorrow, AgriLegacy and pledge drives, KMOS students and staff also work with UCM Athletics to produce the popular in-game video scoreboard entertainment at UCM basketball, football and volleyball games.
