WARRENSBURG - 8/04/2006 - Eugene Stillman, campus advocate for students at UCM, has been named interim director of community engagement, effective immediately. Stillman assumes a post left vacant by John R. Jones, who resigned April 28 to devote more time to family in North Carolina. Jones, the second person in UCM's history to lead the Office of Community Engagement, became director in October 2004.

Talking about the interim position, Richard C. Morrell, vice president for student affairs at UCM, said, “I am very enthused with the appointment of Eugene Stillman to interim director of community engagement.  He is a veteran UCM administrator who knows the needs of students and campus/community diversity issues.  His previous experiences in student recruitment, student advocacy and his knowledge of UCM, position him well to continue our initiatives regarding community outreach and commitment to diversity.”

Served as Campus Advocate for Students

Currently the campus advocate for students, Stillman has served the university for approximately 16 years.  His university career began in the Office of Admissions in 1990, where he served as an admissions representative for four years. He was named interim campus advocate for students in 1994, and was became campus advocate during the 1995-1996 academic year.

Active in Campus Leadership Groups, Community

Throughout his tenure at UCM, Stillman has taught a section of the course, Valuing Differences: Discovering Common Ground. He has also been involved in numerous committee assignments, including the Martin Luther King Celebration Planning Committee, which annually raises scholarships for current UCM students and area high school students who plan to attend Central Missouri. This is just one of the many events that he has worked on during the past 10 years in cooperation with the Office of Community Engagement.

Stillman is also involved in the community. He currently serves as president of the Johnson County United Way Board of Directors, and is a member of the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce, serving as its Education Committee chair for two years.

His education includes earning a bachelor’s degree in recreation from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville in 1987. Prior to joining UCM, he worked at Northwest Missouri State as an equipment manager for two years. He also worked for two years as an admissions counselor at Northwest Missouri.
