WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 12, 2015) – Higher Education Report, the nation’s most widely read publication for educational marketers, has recognized the University of Central Missouri through its annual Education Digital Marketing Awards. Entries submitted by UCM’s Office of University Relations received four awards – a Gold, two Silvers and a Bronze  – for 2014.

The Education Digital Marketing Awards program recognizes the best educational websites, digital content, electronic communications, mobile media and social media. Award entries are grouped into categories for four-year, two-year and other institutions, and each of these groups are subdivided according to the size of the institution. UCM competed with four-year institutions with enrollment between 10,000 and 19,999 students.

A national panel of higher education marketing industry specialists reviewed entries, and judged them according to criteria such as creativity, marketing execution, message impact, technology application and innovation content. UCM submitted four entries and each received an award.

"What is exciting about these awards is that over the past year we've deliberately and strategically promoted the UCM identity of ‘Learning to a Greater Degree’ through digital channels,” said Courtney Niemuth, manager of New Media Communications.

“Learning to a Greater Degree” is the strategic positioning platform that was adopted by UCM in 2013. It emphasizes engaged learning, worldly perspective, culture of service, and future-focused academics as four reasons to believe in a UCM education. The university’s “Learning to a Greater Degree” online feature story series received a Gold Award.

Other awards included a Silver in the Digital Video category for the Choose Red TV commercial, a Silver in Social Media for the UCM Facebook, and a Bronze in the Total Digital Marketing Program category for the Choose Red Digital Campaign, which utilized social media and video.

“The feature stories highlight the things that set our students and faculty apart,” Niemuth said, commenting on the value of the digital marketing initiatives that were recognized. “Our social media following more than doubled in one year, and more importantly, our followers are engaged and loyal to UCM."

Kelly Waldram Cramer, assistant director of Marketing and Promotions, added, "Choose Red continues to be a successful undergraduate recruitment and marketing campaign for UCM. The whole University Relations team has put a lot of effort into ensuring the Choose Red message continues to resonate with prospective students."

Waldram Cramer also noted that the university’s submissions to the Educational Digital Marketing Awards program were judged against entries provided by some of the most prestigious public and private institutions in the country. Institutions submitted work created by on-campus staff and by outside agencies.

"Almost half of the universities winning awards worked with outside advertising agencies for their materials.  All of our pieces were done in-house,” Waldram Cramer said. “This really demonstrates the high quality of designers, writers, photographers and videographers we have here at UCM."
