LockDown Browser

lockdown browser

University of Central Missouri has obtained a campus-wide license for Respondus LockDown Browser®. LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within our learning system. When students use LockDown Browser to access an exam, they are unable to print, copy, visit other websites, or access other applications. Once an assessment is started, students are locked into it until it’s submitted for grading.

LockDown Browser Features

  • Modified Toolbar - the condensed toolbar includes only Forward, Back, Refresh and Stop functions.
  • Test Mode - tests are shown full-screen and cannot be minimized, resized, or exited until submitted for grading.
  • Disabled Controls - all printing, keystroke combinations, screen grab, function keys, and right-click menus have been disabled.
  • Links - links to other web servers will open in a new, secure window and prevent browsing beyond that page.
  • Blocked Features & Applications - the Start button (Windows), system tray, and menu bars have been removed.

Respondus Monitor® is a companion product for LockDown Browser that enables institutions to protect the integrity of non-proctored, online exams. Students use their own computer and a webcam to record assessment sessions, all without leaving the institution's learning management system.

Respondus Monitor Features

Students start LockDown Browser, log into the LMS and complete a brief startup sequence prior to the exam.
The student and the surrounding environment are recorded during the entire exam.
