You chose the University of Central Missouri to give yourself more opportunities in life. But if you’re the first in your family to go to college, you likely have a lot of questions, concerns and even doubts. Since 1978, the TRIO program at UCM has been helping undergraduate students like you graduate. If you’re a first-generation student, come from a low-income background, or are challenged by a disability, this program is designed to help you earn your degree at UCM.
How can TRIO help me?
Through TRIO you’ll receive tuition-free courses and be able to register early for classes. You’ll benefit from on-demand advising and academic tutoring, coaching and mentoring. You’ll have access to an exclusive computer lab and free printing.
Advising begins with anything from choosing a major to selecting courses and enrolling, but it doesn't end there. Our advisors will coach and support you through difficult times, encourage you to do your best work, and assist you with personal/financial challenges.
Struggling in a course? Need help with math and writing? TRIO tutors are here to help. Our peer tutors will listen to your concerns and provide study tips, too. They are available in our lab, just drop in.
The following courses are offered tuition-free through TRIO:
Math Essentials (3hr) - Developmental emphasis in algebra to prepare for MATH 1101 and other college math coursework.
Writing Essentials (3hr) - Application of college writing techniques in paragraph and essay development to prepare for Composition I and other college writing assignments.
College Success Strategies (1hr) - Focus on the behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs that impact college success including developing discipline and character necessary to achieve academic goals
Workshops - We have workshops with topics ranging from campus involvement to career development, scholarships to studying abroad. We offer them both in-person and online.

Apply to TRIO
As a grant-funded program, the TRIO program is limited in how many undergraduate students it can serve. You’re encouraged to take the time to complete the application form. We’re here if you need assistance with the application or if you can’t find the information you need. You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to apply to the TRIO program.
TRIO has been a cornerstone for first generation, low-income, and students with disabilities as this organization continues to invest valuable resources onto UCM's campus to ensure that everyone has access to success. Thank you TRIO!
