Posted: 7/17/2013 - It’s common knowledge that volunteering creates a “helper’s high.” But research also demonstrates many health benefits such as:
-lower mortality rates
-greater functional ability
-lower rates of depression later in life
Do your community and yourself a favor. Help an elderly neighbor with yard work, volunteer at a community agency or your local church. Also check out the opportunities at the Office of Student Activities. http://www.ucmo.edu/osa/ For example that office is currently recruiting volunteers for The Festival of Butterflies at Powell Gardens.
