Posted: 12/13/2013 - UCM’s Department of Public Safety has noticed a recent increase of theft by fraud or deceit during this holiday season. Please be alert to the potential of fraud when approached in person, by telephone, or through other electronic communication. Businesses generally will not contact you by telephone or through electronic communication and ask for passwords or other sensitive personal information. Those who do could be looking for ways to steal your identity or to transfer funds from an account. Many scams are initiated with the promise of turning a small amount of money turn into a larger amount. Public Safety urges everyone to be aware of the different types of common scams. The FBI provides good information on its website concerning common fraud schemes. Please see the link provided.
