As the concept of academic freedom assures the instructor's control over subject matter, content, methods, procedures and activities in his/her classroom or laboratory, the Faculty Senate and the university administration approved the following policy.

a. Students, observers or visitors of any description may not produce recordings, audiotapes or videotapes of classroom or laboratory lectures, presentations, demonstrations or activities without the express permission of the instructor involved.

b. Students who are allowed to record class as a reasonable accommodation do not need to have the instructor's permission and the instructor does not have the discretion to prevent the student from recording lectures.

c. Whether or not permission is obtained from the instructor to produce such recordings or tapes, the recordings or tapes may not be employed for any purpose other than individual academic study without the express written consent of the instructor involved.

d. Recordings or tapes of lectures, presentations, demonstrations or activities may not be sold or in any way contracted to a third party without the express written consent of the instructor involved.

e. Violations of these rules shall be considered a violation of the Board of Governor’s Intellectual Property Rights Policy 3.1.020
