Nick Ferry is a sedimentary geologist who studies the interactions between sedimentation and geologic processes (e.g., tectonism, climate, sea level). His research employs a combination of field- and analytical-based approaches to better understand the evolution of sediment routing systems across spatial and temporal scales. His areas of expertise include fluvial sedimentology, sedimentary provenance analysis, and detrital geochronology.
Nick received a B.S. in geology (2018) from Northern Illinois University and an M.S. in geology (2020) from the University of Cincinnati. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in geology at the University of Kansas, advised by Dr. Mike Blum. His doctoral research focuses on sediment routing of the Late Triassic Chinle fluvial system in North America. He joined the UCM faculty in 2025. Prior to his academic career, Nick served honorably in the US Marine Corps where he reached the rank of Sergeant.
