About Me

I am Canadian-born, long transplanted into American culture, and recently became an American citizen. I revel in the many adventures and experiences I have enjoyed through travel – diversity and multicultural responsiveness are key themes in my teaching philosophy and practices. I have lived in New York, Ohio, Kentucky, Maine, and Missouri, but traveled across North America and to Europe, sometimes with students. I have been a teacher, a librarian, a journalist, a playwright (actress/director as well), a nanny, a farm worker, and an editor. I write professionally and creatively for publication. I am a mother, grandmother (Nana), wife, sister, and daughter, with a passion for building relationships with colleagues and students, language and the arts, good food, gardening, and animals [both wild and tame]. It goes without question that I love to read and enjoy music as well. I think the reason I love teaching is because I learn so much from my students – they keep me young and engaged in a rich intellectual and emotional life.
