WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 19, 2013) –"Green Soul of the Ozarks: Marideth Sisco and the Blackberry Winter Band" with join local photographer John Hess in presenting a multi-media and instrumental performance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 in Hart Recital Hall at the University of Central Missouri. The presentation is the part of UCM's 2013 Earth Day 365 Celebration planned for April 22-27.

The band, which is known for its work in the Academy Award-nominated movie “Winter’s Bone,” features folk and Ozark hill music. The live performance will include original and traditional tunes. Hess, professor emeritus of biology at UCM, will provide a backdrop of his natural images ranging from panoramas to microscopic photos adding to the atmosphere.

For the past 40 years Hess has developed his artistry through photography. His work has been influenced by photographers such as Edward Weston, Ansel Adams and Eliot Porter. He has been awarded an artist-in-residence position at Rocky Mountain National Park and Mesa Verde and recently published his first book. All of these experiences will help add to the evening with lifelike interaction.

“In celebration of the 44th Earth Day, Marideth Sisco, with the Blackberry Winter Band and photography by John Hess, will blend artistry of sound and images that we may be reminded that it is through our everyday practice of sustainability we ensure resources for future generations,” said Steven Boone, associate dean and professor of chemistry at UCM and chair of UCM’s Earth Day 365 planning committee.
