WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 26, 2008) –UCM's Friends of Music Society brings another outstanding performance to campus as UCM alumnus Daryl Duff, a member of the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters, returns to his alma mater Sunday, March 2 in “Daryl Duff: The American Voice.”
Duff will present a program at 7:30 p.m. in Hart Recital Hall that spans the musical spectrum from Giuseppe Verdi to LeeGreenwood and Aaron Copland to Harry Belafonte. The program also will include classic hymns and spirituals featuring UCM’s ABC Gospel Choir.
Member of the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters
A native of St. Louis, Musician 1st Class Edward Daryl Duff joined the Navy Sea Chanters as a bass vocalist in 1990. He received a 1985 National Association of Teachers Singing Competition award in Kansas City, and earned his bachelor’s degree from UCM in 1989. In addition to his work with the Sea Chanters, he also has been featured vocalist with the National Symphony and Cincinnati Pops orchestras.
Duff is perhaps best remembered locally for his performance with the UCM Marching Mules during the halftime show of a UCM Mules football game during the fall of 1987. His rendition of “Old Man River” brought an entire stadium full of football fans to their feet.
Friends of Music Support UCM Music Programs
Become a member of the Friends of Music Society by making a donation to the UCM Foundation in support of music initiatives. Members may support not only the scholarship programs, but also instrument and technology acquisition and maintenance and appearances by guest artists and master teachers who will work with UCM’s music students.
Special benefits to donors at certain levels of membership include the opportunity to have music faculty perform at private events, to “name” a concert in honor or memory of a friend or loved one, or to be a guest conductor with one of the university’s major ensembles. In addition, donors will receive invitations to special social and musical events and public recognition in print materials at upcoming concerts.
Tickets Available Now
Ticket prices for the March 2 performance by Daryl Duff are $12 for adults and $5 for students and children under 17. Tickets are available by contacting the Department of Music ticket line at 660-543-4045, or they will be available at the door one hour prior to the performance.
