Chad Erpelding's "Dogs of Dow" Exhibit Featured at UCM Gallery of Art and Design

A new exhibition at the University of Central Missouri Gallery of Art and Design explores the fluctuations of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

"Dogs of Dow," an exhibit by Chad Erpelding, associate professor of art and graduate program director from Boise State University, utilizes data visualization and systems-based strategies to investigate globalization. Multi-layered paintings, digital prints and a digital projection piece are all a part of the exhibition, which will be featured in the gallery through March 6.

Erpelding will present an artist talk at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the Gallery of Art and Design.  Admission is free, and groups are welcome.  He also will work with painting and 2D design students in the Department of Art and Design during his visit.

"I am interested in how these organizations affect contemporary perceptions of place," Erpelding said.  "We hear the value of the index reported daily before it quickly dissolves into background noise.  However, it has profound implications on all of our lives regardless of whether or not we have money in the market."  This exhibition tries to reveal the complicated global network of activity of the index.  are all a part of the exhibition.

The UCM Gallery of Art and Design is located in the Art Center Building at 217 Clark St. in Warrensburg. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment.
