WARRENSBURG, MO (April 9, 2010) – One man’s trash is another designer’s treasure! UCM will showcase some of these treasures in a trash fashion show of garments made from recyclable material, presented by Haute Trash, as part of UCM’s Earth Week 2010 celebration at 7 p.m. Monday, April 19, in the Elliott Union ballroom. The event is free and open to the public
The latest in recyclable fashion will be featured as Haute Trash joins UCM's Earth Week 2010 celebration.
Haute Trash, the organization providing the unusual fashions, is a non-profit organization from Nevada City, Calif., and features designers from around the continent. Haute Trash develops educational programs in hopes that art will change the way others view the world. The show will feature designs by “Prima Debris” Kathi Griffis, who has been involved with “trash” fashion since 1986.
Students and faculty will model the Haute Trash designs. There also will be an opportunity for student organizations to design their own trash clothing and compete for prizes. The winning designs will be showcased at the show. The Haute Trash fashion show is hosted by UCM Financial Services and is being coordinated with the help of UCM’s Environmental Awareness Club, which also will have a brief presentation at intermission.
This is one element of the week-long Earth Day 2010 celebration which promotes sustainability and environmental awareness on the UCM campus and community.
