UCM Celebrates "Great MOments" with 2013 Homecoming

WARRENSBURG, MO (Oct. 15, 2013) – The University of Central Missouri invites the community to join in the celebration of “Great MOments” during the 2013 Homecoming celebration Oct. 25-26 as friends and alumni join UCM students and staff in a variety of activities.
The Homecoming Pep Rally is planned for 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the Multipurpose Building. Student organizations will have an opportunity to show their UCM pride during a variety of competitions. Later that evening the UCM Alumni Association will recognize the recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award at the annual Distinguished Alumni Reception and Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Elliott Student Union ballroom.
Saturday’s festivities kick off with the annual Homecoming parade at 9 a.m. The parade route, unchanged from previous years, will start at the intersection of Holden and Clark streets, proceeding north on Holden Street through campus and downtown Warrensburg. The parade route turns east onto Gay Street to College Avenue. At College Avenue, the route heads south until it reaches South Street. Band and parade judges will be positioned on the west side of Holden Street on the lawn of the Johnson County Courthouse.
Following the Homecoming Parade, the UCM Office of Alumni Relations, the UCM Alumni Association and the UCM Foundation will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication of the Achauer House at 314 South Holden St. The former residence of the late Reynolds and Maurine Achauer now houses the UCM Office of Alumni Relations.
UCM joins the city of City of Warrensburg, Warrensburg Main Street, Warrensburg R-VI School District and the Warrensburg Convention and Tourism Advisory Board in sponsoring Tailgate with the City from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in downtown Warrensburg. A variety of family-oriented events are planned, and KMOS-TV will host Clifford the Big Red Dog at the event.
The annual Homecoming football game starts at 1:30 p.m. in the Audrey J. Walton Stadium as the UCM Mules take on the Northeastern State University Riverhawks. Halftime activities include the introduction of the 2013 Distinguished Alumni, the crowning of the 2013 Homecoming royalty and performances by the Marching Mules and Alumni Band.
