Mollenkamp Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Communication Association

WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 12, 2015) - Julie Rae Mollenkamp, Meridith Harmon Sauer Distinguished Endowed Professor of Theatre at the University of Central Missouri, recently was named the recipient of the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award for Teaching, Scholarship and Service by the National Communication Association's Theatre, Film, and New Multi-Media Division. The award was presented in November at the NCA Convention in Chicago.

As a member of the National Communication Association, Mollenkamp served as chair of the Theatre Division from 1998-2002, chair of the Leslie Irene Coger Award Committee, and as liaison to the Association of Theatre in Higher Education. In 2006 she received the NCA Excellence in Teaching and Service Award.

Mollenkamp has had a distinguished career as a teacher, director, playwright, and scholar at UCM. She was the recipient of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Faculty Achievement Award in 2005 and the CAHSS Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006. In 2013 she received the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri Wayne Brown Award for Outstanding Teacher. She was named the Meridith Harmon Sauer Distinguished Professor of Theatre in 2013.

As a director, Mollenkamp has earned many distinctions from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. She has received Meritorious Achievement Awards for Excellence in Directing, Excellence in Artistic Collaboration and Best Practices in Sustainable Theatre. In 2005 her production of In the Yose: Tales From Japanwas an invited production to the KCACTF Region V Festival in St. Louis. Students and faculty members collaborating with her on productions have also earned more than 40 individual awards.

In the area of scholarship, Mollenkamp’s one woman play, Inconclusive Woman, has been published in The Best American Short Plays 2006-2007. She has also had numerous articles published in Theatre Topics, The New England Journal of Theatre, American Communication Journal,and The Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri Journal.

Mollenkamp also has presented internationally, nationally and regionally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Association for Theatre in Higher Education, The National Communication Association, Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, American College Dance Festival, Central States Communication Association, and the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri.
