Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 3, 2014) –University of Central Missouri President Charles Ambrose and his Twitter followers engaged in a combined 226 tweets at #askAmbrose during his second annual Tweet Chat with the President.

The UCM leader, who frequently uses Twitter to share information about the university, responded to tweets for two hours Jan. 30 from the UCM Summit Center in Lee’s Summit. This Tweet Chat with the President built upon the success of an initial event that occurred in February 2013.

Questions ranged from light-hearted inquiries about the color of UCM’s holiday lights and things Ambrose would take to a desert island, to more serious topics including updates on the largest capital project in the university’s history. He answered a number of questions related to the new student housing and retail facility, which is scheduled for completion in fall 2015.

Ambrose told his Twitter followers that work is progressing on the mixed-used facility. One of his tweets identified a new “working title” for the project as “The Crossing – South at Holden.” The tweet included an architectural rendering of the facility, and was retweeted more than 30 times and favorited by Ambrose’s Twitter followers 30 times. Another tweet confirming brief details about the facility, including apartment living, a Starbucks, convenience store, new University Store and a restaurant was retweeted 50 times and was a favorite among the president’s Tweet Chat participants 50 times.

In his exchange with his Twitter followers, the president also announced March 27 as the date for a reception and demolition event planned at the site of the new mixed-use structure at South and Holden streets. He referenced a timeline for individuals to follow progress on the project at (

In addition to retail amenities mentioned above, the mixed-use facility will accommodate approximately 325 students in a mix of two- and four-bedroom units that feature kitchens, living areas, and private bathrooms for each two students, with supporting community spaces.  The university is building the facility at the current site of the General Services Building. The GSB will be demolished this spring and its services will move to a new location on the east side of campus, which is the site of the former South East Elementary School.

The Tweet Chat with the President was organized in cooperation with University Relations staff. University Relations will continue to work with Ambrose to organize and announce any future events that will enable the president to reach out to students and other UCM constituents via Twitter.  The first Tweet Chat with the President recently received a Gold Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for “Best Use of Social Media.”
