WARRENSBURG, MO – The University of Central will host its annual Politics and Social
Justice Week April 3-7 on the UCM campus in Warrensburg.
Keynote speakers will be Andrea Pino and Annie Clark, co-founders of End of Rape on
Campus. Pino and Clark were featured in the documentary film “The Hunting Ground,”
which examines the stories of sexual assault victims and their struggles for justice.
Pino and Clark will speak at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in Elliott Student Union 240.
Pino is director of policy and support for End Rape on Campus. She majored in political
science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her activism has been
featured in the media, earning her recognition in a major influence in higher education.
Clark, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
was a lead Title IX and Clery complainant again the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill and assisted in authoring the bipartisan Campus Accountability and Safety
Act. She has been a contributing writer to several news and higher education publications.
Topics presented for discussion on Monday include “Israeli and Palestinian Civilians
in Crisis,” “A History of Racism,” “Conquistadors to Courtroom: Colonialism Violence
and Gender Diversity,” and “Fact Check and American Politics.”
In addition to the keynotes address, an additional topic for presentation on Tuesday
is “Environmental Health and Justice,” the Honors College Faculty Fellows Lecture
Series.
Wednesday presentation topics include “Lynched: The Power of Memory in a Culture of
Terror”; “Preventing Violence through Bystander Intervention,” the Green Dot overview;
“Nonprofits and Giving Back”; and “Immigration and Food.”
Presentations planned for Thursday include “The Struggles of Religious Minorities
in the 21st Century,” and “A Free Press? Re-evaluating Democracy and the Freedom of
the Press in the United States.” Completing Thursday’s events will be the annual Oxfam
Hunger Banquet at 6 p.m.
