Purpose: This policy outlines the procedures for maintaining and following course syllabi.
Scope: This is a university policy pertaining to all course syllabi, students, instructors
of record, and academic units.
Definitions: Syllabi are the official method to organize and communicate course information including
learning outcomes, requirements, polices, and procedures about each individual course.
Procedures:

- Unit Responsibilities- It is the responsibility of the department, school, and/or
college to ensure that the program’s quality and learning outcomes are consistent
across all sections of a course, regardless of instructional methodology, mode of
delivery, location, instructor, or teaching Academic leaders shall establish a process
to gather and review syllabi each semester to ensure syllabi have the required information
and are consistent across the unit.
- Student Responsibilities-it is the responsibility of the student to review, know,
and follow all course syllabi components throughout the semester for each of their
courses.
- Instructor Responsibilities- it is the responsibility of all instructors of record to provide and follow the current
syllabi for each course they are teaching. Instructors must file syllabi at the beginning
of the semester in their respective department or school office and/or in the office
of the appropriate college d Instructors of record must distribute syllabi in class and/or post in the university’s
learning management system at the beginning of each semester and include instructional
procedures and guidelines. If at any time during the semester, an instructor modifies
a course syllabus, the instructor must notify all enrolled students in writing and
file the updated copy to their respective department or school office and/or in the
office of the appropriate college dean.
Syllabus Organization
Instructors must organize syllabi using the official university template maintained in the Academic Programs office. This template includes:

- University policy statements: expected amount of student engagement for credit hours awarded, ADA, Title IX, Access,
Opportunity and Community, Academic Honesty, and Student Conduct.
- Course specific statements: course objectives/student learning outcomes, an outline of course content, faculty
availability, assessment measures, grading policies and practices, attendance policies,
late assignment policies, communication preferences, related matters of interest or
concern, and a statement outlining the instructor’s expectations and use of generative
artificial intelligence (AI).
