Syllabi
All faculty members who teach classes must follow current syllabi that are on file in department offices and in the office of the appropriate college dean. It is the responsibility of the department to ensure that the program’s quality and learning outcomes are consistent across all sections of a course, regardless of instructional methodology, mode of delivery, location, instructor, or teaching arrangement.
All faculty members who teach classes must submit a syllabus for each class for which they are the instructor of record. Syllabi will be distributed in class and/or posted in the University’s learning management system at the beginning of each semester and will include instructional procedures and guidelines. The syllabus must include course outcomes, goals and/or objectives, an outline of course content, faculty availability, assessment measures, grading policies and practices, attendance policies, and late-assignment policies and related matters of interest or concern.
The expected amount of student engagement must be codified within the syllabus as per 34 CFR600.2.
"The amount of student engagement in coursework to achieve the intended learning outcomes should be appropriate to the credit hours awarded. A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally-established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than (1) one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit or the equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time; or (2) at least an equivalent amount of work as required in (1) of this definition for other activities as established by an institution, including laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, and other academic work leading toward the award of credit hours; or (3) institutionally established reasonable equivalencies for the amount of work described above in paragraph (1) of this definition for the credit hours awarded, as represented by verifiable student achievement of intended learning outcomes".
To assist the university in meeting its mandate to provide equal opportunity to students with documented disabilities, faculty members are asked to include the following in their syllabi. "Students with disabilities who are seeking accommodations should contact the Office of Accessibility Services at Union 222, 660-543-4421. If you want to share information about your needs that I should be aware of, such as emergency medical information or special arrangements for field trips or internships, please see me privately after class or during office hours." If you produce publicity for your course or department events, add the following statement to the publicity materials "Please contact Accessibility Services, 660-543-4421 or access@ucmo.edu, at least 72 hours in advance if you will require accommodations due to disability."
