Muleskinner (Student Newspaper)

UCM's Student Newspaper

Getting involved in student media and journalism organizations at UCM allows you to practice your skills while building community with fellow students and developing ties to the professional world. From your first semester on campus, you have the chance to get involved with UCM’s student-led publication, The Muleskinner.

The Muleskinner is a student newspaper that publishes monthly with ongoing Monday through Friday online coverage during regular academic weeks. As journalism has changed, so has the Muleskinner. Although its print edition is published monthly, the Muleskinner is a 24/7 operation. Its website is updated throughout the year with campus news, features, and sports stories, as well as photos and videos, all contributed by students under the guidance of student editorial staff.

The UCM Muleskinner is housed in the Digital Media Production program, within the School of Communication, History, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Many alumni launched their journalism careers at The Muleskinner.

Currently, The Muleskinner, accepts staff applications throughout the 2020-21 academic year. Applications are open to all students regardless of major. Editorial Leadership position applications are due each Spring.

Please direct any questions to the 2020-21 lead adviser Julie Lewis at jlewis@ucmo.edu or our Managing Editor, Bethany Spitzmiller, can be reached via email at muleskinner@ucmo.edu.

The Muleskinner’s newsroom is located in Wood 312. To reach the newsroom by phone, call 660-543-4050.
