UCM's primary focus is to offer engaged programming for all ages in full-day and half-day sessions. From Lego's to Stories for Justice our programming will introduce students to the fields of criminal justice, science, math, public relations, technology, and teaching to broaden the students interest and expose them to future career opportunities. The Strategic Communication Experience

PR: The Strategic Communication Experience (High School Juniors and Seniors)
Date: May 24. Time: 9 am - 4 pm. Cost: $99.00 (plus 85.00 for one credit hour College Credit if desired)

Criminal Profiling: Killers and Kingpins (High School Juniors/Seniors)
Date: July 11. Time: 9 am - 4 pm. Cost: $75.00

Learn different profiling strategies and classifying different types of groups. Students will by assigned a cold case and work as a team to profile and classify the potential killer!

GKC Writing Project: Stories for Justice

Greater Kansas City Writing Project: Stories for Justice (High School Students)
Date: July 9-19. Time: 9 - 12 pm. Cost: $150.00
(Open Mic Performance July 19, from 6-8 pm)

A two-week writing camp that helps high school students to transform personal stories into civically engaged public arguments. This camp connects students' passions, their experiences, their stories to issues of community importance. Students will play with digital storytelling, creative argument, and social justice writing in a supportive environment. Working alongside professional creative and a dynamic group of young people, participants will hone argument writing skills and storytelling craft. Digital publishing and an Open Mic performance allow these stories for justice to meet a larger audience.

WeDo Lego Camp

WeDo Lego Camp (For students who will be in grades 2nd - 4th in the 2018-2019 school year)
Date: July 9-13. Time: 9 am - 12 pm. Cost: $150.00

An adventure for young students, this campus uses the original WeDo kit as well as the WeDo 2.0 kit from Lego Education. Students need to be able to follow complex instructions and work with a partner in bustling, active, and sometimes noisy learning environment. Students will work in groups of two or three to problem solve and build and program. On Friday, parents will be invited for a demonstration.

Robotics: EV3 Lego Camp

Robotics: EV3 Lego Camp (For students who will be in grades 5th - 8th in the 2018-2019 school year)
Date: July 9-13. Time: 1 - 4 pm. Cost: $150.00

The EV3 camps us the MINDSTORMS EV3 robot from LEGO Education. The robot is programmed on a computer and some building is done to equip the robot for specific tasks, however this is not a building with LEGOS camp but more focused on programming the robot to complete tasks. Students will work with partners and complete daily missions with the EV3 robots. Students experience teamwork and communication by working in teams. Programming skills will include (but are not limited to) moving the robot forward and backward, turning, and using sensors. Students will also have the opportunity to create accessory pieces to add on the basic robot. The last day of the week will be devoted to competition. Parents will be invited to watch.

Science: Sport From Science

Science: Sport From Science (Middle and High School Students)

Discover how Biomechanical and physiological aspects influence human movement and the execution of skills at a high level in sports. Dr. Strohmeyer has worked with sport participants at all levels of competition to adjust their movement patters to elicit best performance.

Interactive Web Design, Raspberry Pi and the Internet

Technology: Interactive Web Design, Raspberry Pi and the Internet
(Middle and High School Students)

Date: July 9-13. Time: 8 am - 5 pm. Cost: $400.00

Students will learn introductory programming concepts through learning the basics of Javascript, HTML, and CSS to make web pages dynamic through animations and user interaction. Additionally, the camp will teach students about programming on the Raspberry Pi. With the power of programming languages and the convenience of Raspberry Pi as an Internet of things (IoT) device, students will be instructed and encouraged to create interesting applications and systems.

Future Teacher Academy

Teaching: Future Teacher Academy (10-12 grade high school students)
Date: July 23-27. Time: 9 am - 3 pm. Cost: $80.00 (plus 85.00 for one credit hour of college credit if desired)

During this 5 day academy selected students will work together in a variety of activities to assist them in determining whether they have the potential and desire needed to become an educator. Lunch will be provided and there is an opportunity for dual credit for attending the Future Teacher Academy.
