It’s common knowledge that volunteering creates a "helper’s high." But research also demonstrates health benefits such as:
lower mortality rates...greater functional ability...lower rates of depression later in life
Do your community and yourself a favor. Help an elderly neighbor with yard work, volunteer at a community agency or your local church.
