1. Byler Distinguished Faculty Award

The late Dr. William H. Byler, a University of Central Missouri graduate, Class of '27, established an endowment fund to provide annual recognition for distinguished performance in teaching and administrative work at Central. Recognition will be made to applaud publicly, and so encourage, resourceful and creative teaching and leadership.

The criteria for selection will be teaching, scholarly or creative activity, and professionally related service. Evidence of professional development throughout the individual's career must be documented.

Nomination forms and guidelines for supporting documentation may be obtained from the Office of the provost after an announcement is made that nominations are open. Dossiers are usually requested in March.

The FS Committee on Faculty Awards reviews nominations and recommends those to be named as recipients of the award. Public announcement and recognition of the recipients will be made during commencement ceremony.

2. Governor's Award for Excellence in Education

The Governor's Award for Excellence in Education is an indication of the Governor's appreciation for teaching and provides the state of Missouri an opportunity to recognize and honor outstanding faculty. The criteria for selection include evidence of effective teaching, effective advising, service to the college/university community, commitment to high standards of excellence, and success in nurturing student achievement. One award is designated to each participating campus.

The FS Committee on Faculty Awards requests nominations, reviews submitted materials, and makes a recommendation to the President of the University. The President submits the name of the nominee to the Coordinating Board for Higher Education. Awards are presented at the Annual Governor's Conference on Higher Education.
