Cybersecurity Minor

Cybersecurity is increasingly important in many industries, and the demand for professionals with the training to keep companies and commerce secure continues to grow. The University of Central Missouri is helping train the next generation of versatile specialists with our Cybersecurity minor.

What you will study

The University of Central Missouri’s Cybersecurity minor offers hands-on training in all the core aspects of cybersecurity, from system administration to secure software development. While not as rigorous as the bachelor’s degree programs we offer, the Cybersecurity minor provides a solid foundation in the field through courses such as:

  • Software Security
  • Ethical Hacking (Penetration Testing)
  • Secure System Management and Administration

In our ABET-certified program, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from leading experts in cybersecurity and use cutting-edge technology at some of the most reputable tech firms in the Kansas City area.

As a Cybersecurity student at UCM, you’ll get a taste of working in the real world with the latest cybersecurity tools and techniques. Opportunities to learn outside the classroom and gain hands-on experience include:

  • Internships: Our faculty maintain extensive connections with tech companies and organizations throughout Kansas City, Missouri and the United States that hire student interns. Past undergraduate students in the Cybersecurity Minor program have interned with Cerner, Federal Reserve Bank, Commerce Bank, FishTech, SAIC, Garmin, Hallmark and more. Practical, hands-on experience can help you stand out in the job market and prepare to succeed — in your first job and throughout your career.
  • Networking: At UCM, we offer a wide variety of networking opportunities, from student organizations such as CyberMules to alumni and guest panel sessions. You can also take tours of cybersecurity companies based in Kansas City, just 45 minutes away from the Warrensburg campus.
